The SMILE Framework is World Heritage Trust's holistic educational framework — cultivating the capacities for human flourishing, and placing human development at the heart of learning.

The challenges of the twenty-first century call for an education that nurtures not only academic achievement but also the human capacities required to lead meaningful, resilient, and responsible lives. Recognising this need, World Heritage Trust developed the SMILE Framework — a holistic educational framework that places human flourishing at the heart of learning and development.
Developed by Mindpod Academy and drawing upon contemporary educational research, developmental psychology, neuroscience, social-emotional learning, and global competency frameworks, SMILE organises human development into five interconnected domains that nurture the whole child. Rather than focusing solely on what learners should know, the framework emphasises who they become through purposeful learning experiences — equipping them to thrive in school, work, relationships, and society. It is delivered under WHT's Mindpod platform (mindpod.in).
Five interconnected domains organise the essential capacities for human flourishing — a structured yet flexible approach to nurturing knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and behaviours.
Human capacities develop progressively through age-appropriate learning experiences. The Foundation Programme is organised across three developmental stages, enabling children to gradually build understanding, confidence, and lifelong habits.
This developmental pathway reflects the Trust's belief that flourishing is not achieved through isolated lessons, but through a gradual process of learning, reflection, practice, and habit formation.
To complement the framework, World Heritage Trust has conceptualised the SMILE Flourishing Index (SFI) — an age-appropriate assessment and reflection framework designed to understand how learners develop the capacities that contribute to human flourishing.
Moving beyond conventional academic assessment, the SFI provides meaningful insights into learners' growth across the social, cognitive, emotional, and behavioural dimensions of development — supporting educators in recognising strengths, identifying opportunities for growth, and nurturing the whole child through continuous, evidence-informed practice.
“Education should not merely prepare children for examinations; it should prepare them for life. The SMILE Framework is World Heritage Trust's commitment to making that vision a reality.”
